Chapter Stuff for 'The Drop'
Last night, 14 April 2005, General Tommy
Franks was the Guest Speaker at the College of the Ozarks' Keeter
Center. Marilyn and I had the honor of being in attendance.
Representing Chapter 82, was VP, Jim and Jane Rougeau. Jim, through
his dedication to Education (DR. James Rougeau), and our "Ozarks"
SFA Chapter 82, gained the tickets for our attendance. Additionally,
Jim and Jane were in attendance at the Dine-In and Reception for
General Franks, along with Chuck and Mary Schantag in their
representing the POW/MIA issues, and members of Chapter 82.
General Tommy Franks, in my most humble opinion, is the most
remarkable speaker that I have ever, in my life, had the privilege
to have listened to. In addition to being a gifted speaker, he is
also gifted with being a humorist. With these combined gifts he is
at ease, composed, and directs a delivery that will keep everyone on
the edge of their chairs.
General Franks, related to many of his experiences in his
thirty-eight year military career which directed his life,
leadership, and association with those who were his commander's and
those who carried out his directions, right down to the Private in
the trench. My personal assessment of the event is summed up in one
word..........REMARKABLE!
I do have a note of discord, however, I carried my copy of "AMERICAN
SOLDIER" to the event, and was in hopes of having the General
autograph it for me. However! Tommy Franks vacated that building a
lot quicker then I used to vacate some of the areas of operation we
used to visit. His E & E Route, was well planned, concealed, and
executed. If we have the pleasure of his attendance at the GALA this
year in Branson, I will, somehow, devise a booby trap on his E & E
Route.......Ringo Sends
Also in attendance was members Frank and LaVerne Baker, Jeff Lear,
and friend Don McClung (from an Arkansas Chapter) and his friend,
Jim Barrack (from an Oklahoma Chapter). Following active duty with
SF, McClung and Barrack finished out their time in the 19th and 20th
SFR.
While there, I also met Ronald E. Williams, DO, who is Medical
Director at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon, MO.
Ron wasn't aware of our chapter, and spent his life towards the
numerous Doctorates and Masters he has in the medical arena. He is a
former member of CCN and ran with RT Rhode Island. Along with one of
the former Security Officers at MACVSOG HQ, who appeared to be a
friend of Frank Baker. (Chapter Prez' note:......Looks like some new
blood for the Chapter, Membership Chairman, please step forward.)
